From roustabout to geologist, Scott has built a brilliant career in the oil patch.
Scott Payne began working in the oilfield at the age of 19 as a roustabout. He began his college career studying Wildlife Biology at Louisiana State University, but he discovered he could better support his family by working in the oilfield. He went to work for Schlumberger doing coiled tubing and pressure testing. His time spent working as a roustabout lead him to pursue a career as a petroleum geologist. He completed his second degree from Centenary College of Louisiana.
Scott’s forte is overseeing wireline logging, mudlogging, geosteering, remote gas detection, and drilling. Scott has been responsible for as many as 24 drilling ring at one time. In his career he has been associated with Schlumberger, Anderson Oil & Gas, Delta T Geophysical Consultants, EXCO Resources Inc. and Managing Partner of Moran-Lavaca, LLC. Today, Scott is a partner with SMR Energy Partners.
